As an ETU Flagship Case, we aim to set limits for our greenhouse gas emissions, and establish measures to achieve the objectives set in our Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP).
Onda is a municipality in the province of Castellón, Valencia. Onda is well-known for its ceramics, and is one of the main ceramics exporters globally. Its Mediterranean climate makes the town a popular tourist destination, offering a historic town centre, monuments such as the Castle of the 300 Towers, and the Sichar reservoir.
Whilst the province of Castellón has the smallest population of the region’s provinces, its energy demand is similar to that of Alicante, with triple the population. This high energy demand is due to a strong industrial sector, which accounts for almost 70% of the province’s energy use. Currently, total energy consumption in Onda is around 1.67 million MWh, of which only 3.67% comes from renewable energy sources.

The municipality of Onda’s main challenges include reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the implementation of renewable energies, raising awareness amongst its inhabitants of the importance of combating climate change and conserving the natural environment, and engaging the residents of Onda in the energy transition through appropriate fiscal policies and tax relief mechanisms.
