Organisational Technological TerritorialWhat is the solution?
The toolkit helps ports identify the most suitable renewable energy sources for their specific context. By entering their current and future energy needs, users can compare the potential of photovoltaic and wind energy through tailored calculations and visualisations. The tool generates detailed outputs — including graphs, statistics, and datasets — which can be viewed online or downloaded in CSV, JSON, or PDF formats, providing port authorities with actionable insights for informed energy planning.
What challenge does this solution address?
The main challenge is to tackle the negative contribution to climate change of ports by supporting the clean energy transition of MED ports, turning them from emitters of pollutants and greenhouse gases to clean energy hubs by exploiting the untapped potential of renewable energy sources (RES).
What is the added value?
Development of a toolkit that will guide MED ports in the adoption of the most suitable renewable energy source in each location, based on their own current and future energy needs. The toolkit will be freely available on the project’s website and will be replicable in other geographical contexts, even beyond the MED Area. It will allow Euro-MED ports managing authorities to calculate the RES potential of the ports and implement actions toward energy transition of the port ecosystem.
